Only In Edmonton...
Yesterday it reached 24°C. So while everyone was celebrating in shorts and sandals, this morning it was 0°C, with flurries. Isn't this the coolest weather or what?
I have a new music favourite. I discovered her by chance, a New Zealander with an lovely angelic voice named Hayley Westenra. Her album, Pure, comes out April 6 in Canada, so I guess I'll visit A&B Sound when I have time, to buy it. She celebrates her 17th birthday on April 10.

I decided to download Linux to try it out. Since my download speed tops out at 15 kb/s at home, I did it at the UofA, where they have plenty of bandwidth. The flavour I chose was SuSE Linux, and I'll admit, the interface looks better than Windows, sort of like the MacOS.
Afterwards, I decided to do some planning for next week. I made a pressure quiz (not a quiz that you do under pressure, but a quiz that involves the formula pressure = force/area), so if you're in LG 8-2 at Riverbend, better start studying now, because you will be notified next Monday.
I went downtown afterwards, hoping to buy a bestselller from SmithBooks. Mark Haddon's The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time was $29.95, whereas it was 30% off (and 40% off for me, an iRewards member) just last week. I checked Kingsway as well, hoping downtown was an anomaly. I was wrong. I did, however, see some pretty people on the #9 to Kingsway, so maybe it was worth the trip.

Today is the second day of a nine-day weekend. I know a couple of people who chose teaching as a career solely for the 10-week summer vacations. From one classmate: "Once July hits, I'll be at the beach, sipping coolers everyday for a whole month!"
Trust me, teachers actually need the holiday. I've been stressed for the whole week, and I haven't actually taught for more than an hour per day. What will I do when I have to teach six classes? And prepare a lesson plan for each of them?
My sleep cycle has already been disrupted. Which is just great. The Venetian blinds in my room just fell off, and I have no urge to fix it. So the sunrise each day at 6 a.m. is my natural alarm clock.

Spring break is next week. This is good, I can actually work on developing lesson plans for a whole week! The week back is only four days, ditto for the following week. Hurray for Easter!
I finished Fast Food Nation, a book that I received as a birthday gift, and am planning to give up fast food temporarily. Yeah, how do you know what's in the hamburger?
OK, so I am going to talk about the student teacher who shares the class with me, after all. He asks so many questions, it defeats the purpose of a mentor teacher. He doesn't share any (school-related) information with me (therefore, I will not share anything more with him), and I have trouble making conversation with him. I envy all of my friends who are getting along well with their fellow student teachers.
The guy is a kleptomaniac: he stole the secretary's (Winnie-the-Pooh) pen, my pen (he put it in his mouth, so I am not touching it again), one of the handouts I got from a staff meeting (he stained his own copy with his cup of coffee, and I don't want a coffee-stained copy), the textbook, the multimeter...and who knows what else.

We did a lot of marking yesterday. Imagine all of the quizzes for eight Grade 9 science classes (~200), marked by two people. I think I spent about 5 hours marking.
I was teaching the grade 8 class today. Boy, am I in trouble! I need to plan better (time management). I spent a lot of time making sure everyone understood how to do calculations. I hope they do well on the quiz tomorrow, it's going to be a tough one.
